American Music Awards 2015: Winners Liste

 AMA

The Weeknd won the evening's first award as his Beauty Behind the Madness took home the Favorite Soul/R&B Album award, a category that was presented by a guitar-toting Prince. Abel Testfaye later picked up the American Music Award in the Favorite Soul/R&B Artist – Male category and also performed "The Hills" during the ceremony.
Nicki Minaj's The Pinkprint's snagged the Favorite Hip-Hop Album award, marking the third time the rapper had won in that category. She followed that up by winning Favorite Hip-Hop Artist for the third time as well.
Other notable winners include Sam Hunt's surprise New Artist of the Year victory over the Weeknd and Fetty Wap, plus Fall Out Boy securing Favorite Alternative Rock Band, Skrillex, Diplo and Justin Bieber's Collaboration of the Year win and Ariana Grande's Favorite Pop/Rock Female victory, which the singer shared with her very excited grandmother.
The main draw of the AMAs, however, are the musical performances, and there was no shortage of star power on the ceremony's stage this time around. The ceremony opened with host Jennifer Lopez and an army of dancers grooving to a 10-minute megamix of 2015's biggest hits, from Fetty Wap and Taylor Swift to Ed Sheeran and the Weeknd. That was followed by 5 Seconds of Summer's Duran Duran-inspired "Hey Everybody!," Selena Gomez's vampy "Same Old Love" and Nick Jonas' show-stopping medley.
Other highlights included Alanis Morissette performing Jagged Little Pill's "You Oughta Know" with Demi Lovato, the debut of Macklemore and Ryan Lewis' powerful addiction ballad "Kevin" with Leon Bridges, Gwen Stefani sharing her breakup anthem "Used to Love You," Pentatonix's Star Wars tribute and Justin Bieber's ceremony-ending, rain-soaked victory lap.
However, the most moving moment of the AMAs came when Celine Dion delivered a stunning rendition of Edith Piaf's "Hymne A L'amour" to remember all those killed and injured in the Paris terror attacks. The performance was preceded by a moving speech by Jared Leto, who implored Americans not to shut our borders to Syrian immigrants in the aftermath of the terror attacks.

OK, we need to officially put a moratorium on performances that look like Marilyn Monroe's Gentleman Prefer Blondes. It was brilliant when Madonna did it in 1985, charmingly meta when Taylor Swift recalled it for her 2014 VMA performance, and while it's still not as hackneyed as, say, Star Wars references, we should at least find something else for a pop star to do than descend stairs and be carted around by suitors. Also, those suiters shouldn't mix suspenders, Hammer pants, bad voguing and one tiny top-bun.

5 types of laptops for 5 types of people

Good news. According to a recent study, a large number of people still buy laptops. Despite the earlier fears that laptops would become obsolete as people fell head over heels in love with android and Apple tablets. Reasons for this are myriad and diverse, from practicalities such as the higher computing power and larger memory, to aesthetics; the good solid feel of a laptop keyboard beneath your fingers as opposed to the touchscreen of tablets, the laptop obviously isn’t going anywhere yet.

7 Tricks to Learn Any Language in your Hometown (in One Week)

Do you really have to travel to another country to learn the language? The 10-language twins undertook the challenge of learning a language in a week in Berlin, their city of residence. What can we learn from how they learned?

What’s possible in a week? If you dedicated seven days to the achievement of one goal, how ambitious could you make this goal? These were the questions that the multilingual twins Matthew and Michael Youlden posed themselves when they determined to learn Turkish in one week. They would attempt to liberate themselves from the distractions and responsibilities of modern-day life in order to cram eight hours of study time into their daily routine. Here are the seven things that I learned by observing some of the world’s most capable language learners.

1. Get To Know Why

Lesson learned: Clearly define your goal at the very beginning and then plot a route towards this goal’s achievement.
The twins set themselves the challenge of learning a language in a week in order to stretch themselves, and then it was a question of choosing which language to learn. Turkish presented itself as a natural option; there are nigh on 300,000 Turkish speakers in Germany’s capital, and the areas of Kreuzberg and Neukölln are dotted with stores adorned with signs in Turkish. Truly understanding one’s environment in these neighbourhoods requires one to first understand Turkish.
